Description
Buds and Thorns – Poems by Abdur Raquib Syed
This book is the result of the emotional reactions of the writer. The poet in him cannot watch passively any injustice being perpetrated against anyone, least of all himself. The newspaper report of a rape, the sufferings of the children of divorced parents, the callous disregard of poverty by the affluent, the ill-treatment of man by man… in fact everything that calls out for a change in human attitude has moved the poet to express himself. The poet’s concern on sympathy is not confined to human beings only. He also feels for the shore that yearns to be in constant contact with the sea and the ‘gulmohar’ tree that did not receive it’s due. He would be too happy if his poems can re-create in the reader, the emotion which impelled him to write.
Nature seems to have been in a liberal mood while bestowing her gifts on Prof. A. A. Syed. Apart from writing
both prose as well as poetry, he is also a keen photographer, a fairly knowledgeable homoeopath, and a
yoga enthusiast. He is a connoisseur of Indian classical music. He learnt ghazal singing under Ustad Aslam Khan and gave several live performances. He is a second degree reiki healer which he learnt under Mrs. Manju Sharma. He reviewed English books on Akashwani Mumbai.
Even as a school-boy he was attracted to the theatre and acted in plays and participated in public speaking. After
completing studies, he took to play direction and put up successful plays, both in Hindi as well as English. One can
say that he is an aesthetician for he is attracted to beauty in every form of life
